All Together Now with Community Builders
Thank you to those who’ve given their time and talents by visiting our youth during our All Together with Community Builders series. Below are photos from these visits and the books our guest readers have read aloud.
ECU Women’s Basketball Team
The ECU Women’s Basketball Team are the best sports! They’re serious on the court but they showed their silly side during Storytime at Farmville Library. The players led kids in a warmup of Head, Shoulders , Knees, and Toes and a team spirit dance party with scarves, shaker eggs and bubbles. They read aloud the books “The Legend of Rock Paper Scissors” and “The Books With No Pictures.” Thank you Pirates for embodying the spirit of the summer reading program All Together Now at Farmville Library which is celebrating community and kindness. A special shout out to hometown star and Farmville Central alumn Amiya Joyner. Your hometown is proud!
Farmville and Fountain Fire Departments
Thank you to the volunteer firefighters from Farmville and Fountain Fire Departments for joining us at the library for All Together Now with Community Builders. They presented two programs. During Storytime firefighter Valerie read “I Am Brave” and during Community Builders she read “Molly, by Golly!: The Legend of Molly Williams, America’s First Female Firefighter.” Firefighter Diego demonstrated the safety gear they wear to fight fires. Chief Brady and others answered many good questions from the kids. They brought the vehicles and equipment they use when responding to fire and rescue calls. The firefighters also led us in Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes.
FFA and 4-H
All Together Now with Community Builders: FFA and 4-H. Thank you to Mariam from Little Creek Market for bringing a tractor and produce from the farm and telling us about growing fruits and vegetables. Participants met farm animals including goats, chickens and a rabbit thanks to Sybil, officer, and Danielle, advisor, with the Future Farmers of America Chapter from Farmville Central High School. Sybil and Cecelia read the interactive book The Cow Who Clucked by Denise Fleming. 4-H participants Erin and Emily told us about how to raise chickens at home and how to get started raising and showing animals with 4-H.
NCDOT BeRailSafe
Kids are on the right track for rail safety thanks to the North Carolina Department of Transportation’s Be Rail Safe presentation from Miss Flower and Mr. Smock. Participants took home an activity book, train coin bank and conductor hat. Learn more at BeRailSafe.
