What are the requirements for obtaining a library card?
The following individuals are eligible to apply for a library card at no charge:
How much does a library card cost?
Your first library card is free. Replacement cards are $1.00.
I don't live, work, or go to school in Farmville or Pitt County. Can I still obtain a library card?
Yes. Persons not meeting eligibility qualifications for a Farmville Public Library card may obtain a fee card upon payment of $10.00. This non-refundable fee entitles you to all benefits provided by the library for 3 years. Valid identification and current address must be presented to purchase a fee card.
Do I need my library card to check out materials?
Yes, you must present your library card to check out library materials.
What are the circulation periods?
Is there a limit to how many items I can check out?
Yes. Patrons may have 20 items checked out on a library card at one time. However, there is a maximum checkout of 3 DVDs per library card at one time. Only 1 wireless hotspot may be checked out per library card at one time.
What are the overdue charge amounts?
The Library does not charge overdue fines for materials returned after their due date with the exception of its wireless community hotspot program ($2.00 per day).
Will I be notified when I have overdue materials?
Yes. Once an item becomes overdue, a letter will be mailed to you with the overdue item listed along with the overdue fee that has accrued. Keep in mind that you will receive a receipt upon checking out library materials with the due date on it.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We only accept cash at this time.
At what age may my child be left unattended at the Library?
Children 10 years of age and younger must be accompanied at all times by an adult, parent or legal guardian.
How long can I use the computer?
Patrons are generally allotted 2 hours of computer time per day, though this time has been reduced temporarily to 1 hour per day to help cut down on the number of patrons inside the library during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Do I need my library card to access the computer?
You need to know your library card number, which is on the back of your library card. If you do not have your library card and do not know your number, a library staff member may look up your number for you for 25 cents and an acceptable form of identification.
Can I make copies? How much are they?
Yes. You will be charged .25 cents per black and white page to print from the computer or when using the public photocopier. The public photocopier will also print in color for .50 cents per page.
Can I have a test proctored at the library?
Yes, at a fee of $5.00 per test. Patrons interested in having a test proctored should first contact the library at least 5 days in advance, as well as have the instructor contact the library with instructions on administering the test. Tests will not be proctored without instruction form the instructor directly. Tests will be proctored as library staff time allows.
